The Name of the program for injury prevention and respect program is “Get the Point” program. This is used in Hockey in Edmonton to prevent injuries in minor hockey and following of the penalty time by the teams. This was started in a motive to reduce injuries and cut off the time wasted in riots which arises between the teams. This method proved to be of enormous success. This program also awards points for the teams which have adhered to the rules and time limits, based on these points the teams are decided for the attending of the special event. The aim of the program is to prevent head and neck injuries, award for playing within the rules and promote sportsmanship based on the respect of self, other players, officials and of the rules of the game. The criteria for rewarding the IPRP are:
- A team will need to have at least 50% of the possible IPRPs when they apply for their travel permit. (Note: Points will be reset after each tiering round.)
- Teams who fall below the 50% IPRP level between the time the permit is issued and the date of the event may lose their travel permit. This will be at the discretion of the Category Director.
- IPR Points earned in the first schedule round will enable a team to compete in tournaments or exhibition games during the 2nd schedule round
- IPR Points earned in the second schedule round will enable a team to compete in tournaments or exhibition games during the 3rd schedule round
- IPR Points earned in the third schedule round will enable a team to compete in post-playoff tournaments or exhibition games
These are GENERAL guidelines and may be strengthened at the discretion of the Category Director of Hockey in Edmonton.
